Trestle Glen/ Crocker Highlands
Neighborhoods
I knew Trestle Glen was a special place the first time I drove through it. Gracious homes along the curved tree-lined streets gave the neighborhood a feeling you don’t get in neighborhoods built with a grid pattern. Notice the lovely street lanterns.
Years later, I learned the streets were laid out by the Olmstead Brothers. If the name is familiar, it’s because their father Frederick Law Olmsted designed New York City’s Central Park. Mountain View Cemetery at the end of Piedmont Avenue is another of Olmsted’s Oakland jewels.
Trestle Glen is bounded by two of Oakland’s pleasant shopping districts, Lakeshore Avenue and Park Blvd.
Crocker Highlands adjoins Trestle Glen and is also noted for beautiful homes from the 20s and 30s. The City of Piedmont marks Crocker Highland’s northern boundary.
