What it's like living here!
If anything, the Thousand Oaks neighborhood
has become even more wonderful over the years since I was a child
living a block away!
We jumped through hoops to move back to Berkeley from the south
bay (my husband still does the commute) because we wanted the
quality of life to be found here.
Albany playground is a short walk down Portland Avenue. When we
moved here, we wondered if this would be a busy street, but because
most people don't know about it unless they live on it, it has
actually been an asset! Because it is wider than many Berkeley
streets, parking is never an issue, and it is so easy to get
out of the driveway!
I know we will all miss the friendly families here, young and
old, the proximity of Solano Avenue with its happily bustling
atmosphere.
We have loved being able to stroll to Solano on a whim. Feel
like Zachary's Pizza tonight? Let's go! Funky book stores, two
movie theaters (including one specializing in art films), eclectic
cafes, clothing boutiques, shopping, it is all there. And Kensington
Circle with Semifreddi's and the Kensington Circus Pub is also
a pleasant stroll away. Our children and I were delighted to
discover a house painted with illustrations from the "Little
Prince" on the way. And the beautiful gardens! For sunsets,
we just walk up the hill a bit... we will really miss this place
and the people in it.
